Ozone Data

Very interesting Ozone Data and summary from Dr. Neil Carman, Clean Air Program Director, Lone Star Chapter of the Sierra Club. Some airport ozone data would help to estimate the impact that CTA could have on the already high readings at McKinney Roughs.

2010 Texas Ozone Data - through September 24, 2010

The CAPCOG McKinney Roughs C684 ozone monitor averaged nearly 70 parts per billion (ppb) in ozone measured from 2008-2010 for the fourth highest concentration used by the TCEQ and EPA to determine compliance with federal ozone air quality standards. The new EPA ozone standard is expected to be 70 ppb when EPA announces it in late October, 2010, which means the McKinney Roughs monitor would be only one part per billion below the new standard for its three-year compliance average. The McKinney Roughs monitor ranked second in ozone levels measured in the Austin area with the Dripping Springs monitor, The Austin near nonattainment area consists of five counties (Travis, Bastrop, Williamson, Hays and Caldwell) and is ontrack to become nonattainment or in violation of the new EPA ozone standard assuming it’s 70 ppb. The highest ozone level measured was at the Austin Northwest monitor with 74 ppb averaged over three years. EPA uses the fourth highest ozone reading each year at a monitor and averages the fourth highest value over three years to determine if a violation occurred.
